Floor Covering Standards
When investigating, a floor covering claim we gather lots of information and use many tools. Among these tools are published floor covering standards. We also need to consider the expectations of the end user.
Standards vs. Expectation
Floor covering standards are voluntary agreements that establish requirements for products, practices, or operations. Standards set a level of quality, something that is accepted as a norm.
User expectations are built on our own biased premonitions, which may or may not be realistic.
Standards are important as are expectations. Neither should be used alone to determine the cause and fault of a flooring failure. Both are tools that an experienced inspector will use in determining the claim at hand.
