Concrete Vapor Emission Testing and Floor Failure Analysis

concrete vapor emission testingConcrete Moisture, Surface Alkalinity and Floor Failure Testing: From concrete vapor emission testing to floor failure analysis of products installed over concrete the Weinheimer Group, is a resource you need to know. Using calcium chloride, pH and in-situ relative humidity testing procedures to analyze or help prevent expensive floor failures.

When a floor has failed The Weinheimer Group will conduct tests to determine cause. Was the failure the result of the product, adhesive, a barrier coating? Was the failure installation, maintenance or site related moisture?

Prior to installation it is essential to:

  • Perform concrete moisture and surface alkalinity testing.
  • Testing all concrete slabs regardless of age or grade level.

Testing determines suitability of a concrete slab that is to receive a moisture-sensitive floor covering or coating. Most U.S. producers of floor coverings, adhesives, and resinous coatings specify concrete emission and surface alkalinity testing. Most common tests are: Moisture Vapor Emission Rate (MVER). Equilibrium Relative Humidity (ERH) in concrete. These tests determine level of dryness and suitability for the installation of their products.

Concrete Vapor Emission Standards

Industry standards for testing the moisture of a concrete slab by ASTM International

  • ASTM F1869  Standard Test Method for Measuring Moisture Vapor Emission Rate of Concrete Subfloor Using Anhydrous Calcium Chloride.
  • ASTM F2170 Test Method for Determining Relative Humidity in Concrete Floor Slabs Using In-Situ Probes.

The Weinheimer Group provides concrete moisture and surface alkalinity testing based on the ASTM protocol or the manufactures standards. Feel free to contact us for more information. 800.621.3427
